001 Welcome to The Intentional Homeschooler
Hey, homeschool mom. Welcome to the intentional homeschooler podcast. Get ready for actionable steps and encouragement for your homeschooling journey so you can confidently and intentionally homeschool your children without sacrificing your sanity. I'm Erica Sagert. I've been married to my husband, Trent, for twenty eight years, and I've been a veteran homeschool mama for my four kids for nearly twenty years.
Speaker 1:Two have finished college already. In the past, I've taught elementary, middle, and high school, and I'm currently the director of the Hope Learning Center here in the Pacific Northwest in the Vancouver, Washington area. I created this podcast to support busy homeschool moms because I've been there, and I know and remember exactly how hard it can be. In this podcast, we'll cover topics like, where do I start with homeschooling? What are the homeschooling requirements?
Speaker 1:How to teach from a Christian worldview? How to give your children direction without being overbearing? How to foster a strong marriage even when you're swamped, how to write lesson plans and menu plans. Each episode will be ten to fifteen minutes, a good amount of time for you without taking too much of your precious time. The more you listen to the show, the more you'll start to reap the rewards.
Speaker 1:Let's bypass the burnout. Let's avoid the heartache and regret, but let's keep that passion. Homeschooling your children can be rewarding and fulfilling for you and your children. And it doesn't have to come at the cost of your relationships or sacrificing the entire households or your sanity. You might wonder why I'm the person to help you.
Speaker 1:When I think back to my school years, my younger years, I remember loving school. I even played school with my stuffed animals. But as I got older and was in upper elementary, middle school, and high school, I struggled when it came to learning. It was really difficult for me. I tried hard.
Speaker 1:I was a diligent student, but the grades were just not happening for me. Well, it turns out, we found out my freshman year of high school after meeting with a tutor that I had a bit of a learning disability. And that affected my reading comprehension and my memory. Once I started working with my tutor for a couple of years, my grades improved a lot, and I was able to get through high school much easier. I was also able to go on to college to get my teaching degree, so I am so thankful that I was able to get that help.
Speaker 1:Now as a teacher, I know how hard it is for a struggling student and their parents. My approach comes from a place of empathy, understanding, and patience. I've taught several different age levels from elementary to high school, not to mention the twenty years of homeschooling my own children. And as the director of Hope Learning Center, I work with many different families from all sorts of situations, scenarios, and circumstances. All of these experiences have given me a wide breadth of knowledge and understanding of the homeschool journey from the day to day to the bigger picture.
Speaker 1:I want to take the fear, doubt, and worry out of homeschooling for you so that you can create a fun, hopeful, and rewarding learning experience for your kids and you that you can be proud of at the end of every single day. You can be a wonderful homeschooling parent. You have what it takes. You can have amazing, smart, polite, well rounded, socialized children when you teach them yourself. You can instill a solid foundation of wisdom in them, but you also need to know what a solid learning foundation looks like from the educator's point of view.
Speaker 1:You have what it takes. Let me show you how to remove the overwhelm and the doubt so you can get the most out of homeschooling. I have clearly seen the benefits of homeschooling in my own children as I see them launching. My youngest is now just this year graduating from high school, and I've seen each one of them pursue their life's work. Two of them have graduated with their undergraduate degrees, and one of those is heading on to graduate school.
Speaker 1:One is just now finishing her time at the community college, and my last child plans to pursue commercial flying. It is my mission to guide you on your homeschooling journey. I promise your confidence will grow with each episode. And here's the truth. I didn't do everything perfectly, quite the contrary.
Speaker 1:But I will share the mistakes, and there were plenty of them. But I also will share the lessons that I learned along the way. I will share my victories and my losses. I will be transparent with you, and I will come at this with heavy doses of grace and truth. So, join me every other Thursday for about a ten to twenty minute episode on the intentional homeschooler podcast.
